Build your own street view

  1. Install Athesus Street Capture on Android 8 or newer. Allow Camera and Precise Location.
  2. On this website, open Capture desk and enter the owner key created on your server. Choose One phone or Four phones. Name each phone and select its direction. Create a different device key for each phone. Use Create install QR code to download the APK on your phones; the code expires in ten minutes.
  3. In the Android app, open Phone setup. The server is https://maps.athesus.app. Enter the phone’s device key.
  4. Give the journey a name such as hastings-001. With four phones, use the same journey name and assign front, left, right or rear in Capture desk to match each camera. Phone setup reads the assigned name and direction when it connects. Keep phone clocks set automatically.
  5. Go outside, wait for a good GPS fix, and tap Start collecting. Keep the app open with a clear view from the rear camera. The screen stays awake. Moving away from the app pauses capture.
  6. Phones save photos locally and upload over mobile data or Wi-Fi. Waiting photos survive app restarts. Do not uninstall the app or clear its storage with uploads waiting.
  7. Open Capture desk to see private photos arrive on the map. Select photos, blur faces or plates where needed, then publish them for visitors. Your incoming footage is not automatically made public.

Get clearer results

Clean the lens, use daylight, keep a steady level view and avoid window reflections. Walk slowly for close spacing. When driving, mount the phone securely before setting off and have a passenger operate it. Keep the camera clear of the vehicle body. Charging may be needed for longer runs; stop if a device overheats.

This version captures GPS-tagged still photos. It does not record continuous video or stitch four phones into a 360° panorama. Camera direction is estimated from travel bearing and the selected mounting side when moving. GPS accuracy, mobile signal, camera speed and light affect the result; an outdoor trial is required before a full survey.

Existing imagery

Any imported open photos retain their source, credit and capture date. A photo point is evidence of a photograph at that location, not proof that an entire street has been surveyed.
